Less than 24 hours after the Toronto Transit Commission's general manager, Gary Webster, was fired after a closed-door committee meeting, it was revealed at a meeting of Ottawa's city council that OC Transpo general manager Alain Mercier was relieved of his duties.

Webster's dismissal was rather acrimonious. Five allies of Toronto mayor Rob Ford overwhelmed four dissenting votes at a special transit meeting. The reaction on Twitter was swift, as Webster was widely praised.

The immediate reaction to Mercier's dismissal expressed a much different tone. While there remain many questions about the circumstances of his dismissal—it was characterized as part of a larger reorganization, but that's all we know for now—the mood on Twitter was almost gleeful.
