RobFord.ca domain name lapses, is bought by someone with a sense of humour
If you go to RobFord.ca right now, you'll see a brief message (pictured above) and a quick redirect to the home page of the Toronto Star. A malicious form of cyber-terrorism? Not even remotely. The explanation over at Torontoist:
When Mayor Rob Ford was just an angry councillor on the fringe, he used his website at RobFord.ca as a clearing house for all the things that bothered him about city council. But soon after he upgraded to the mayor’s office, all content was taken offline, with the last record of the old site at archive.org dated February 2011. Sometime over the summer the domain name was allowed to lapse, meaning that after a brief waiting period RobFord.ca became available to anyone willing to part with a few dollars to pay the registration fee.
And that's how, at least for this afternoon, it looks like (but is not actually the case that) the Toronto Star is apologizing to Rob Ford. I'm going to guess that this won't be the beginnings of a beautiful friendship between the daily and the mayor's office.
Update: Apparently the apology was a temporary thing, as the website now redirects to the Wikipedia page for a different Rob Ford.
